Admission Requirements

Admission to USU
  • Students interested in Special Education will be admitted as pre-special education majors.
  • USU application requirements can be found in the USU General Catalog.

Admission to the Special Education Major
  • Application to the Special Education major is competitive based on several factors. These include:
    1. The student's current GPA
    2. The number of credit hours completed by the end of fall semester
    3. Completion of the Special Education Requirements
    4. The student's career goals and experiences
  • Applications are due by October 1
  • Online application
Minimum Requirements
  1. English
    1. ENGL 1010 with a grade of C+ or better OR
    2. ENGL ACT score of 21 or higher OR
    3. AP ENGLISH score of 3 or higher.
  2. Math
    1. STAT 1040 with a grade of C or better (MATH 1050 will also be accepted but Statistics is preferred) OR
    2. MATH ACT of 25 or higher OR
    3. AP Calculus score of 3 or higher.
  3. American Institutions
    1. USU 1300 (or equivalent American Institutions Course) with a grade of C or better OR
    2. READING ACT score of 21 or higher OR
    3. AP US History score of 3 or higher.
  4. Science
    1. Both an approved life science and an approved physical science class with grades of C or better OR
    2. SCIENCE ACT score of 21 or higher OR
    3. approved AP credit in both physical science and life science.
  5. FHD 1500 with a grade of C or higher.
  6. Successful completion of the Computer and Information Literacy Exam
  7. Successful completion of the College of Education Writing Exam
  8. A speech and hearing screening.
  9. Successful completion of the SPED Math Test
  10. Completion of 40 semester credit hours by the end of that fall semester.
  11. Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75.
