Krystal is a composite major in elementary education and special education with an emphasis in mild/mdoerate disabilities and will begin the special educationmajor in the fall. She received the National Honor Society Recognition during High School and was the Utah New Century Scholar. She has been involved with service projects and cultural learning experiences. She enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, volleyball, craft projects, and plays the oboe and piano.
Lindsay is a dual major in elementary education and special education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. She is the fourth of eight children and two of her brothers have autism. She wants to encourage and assist those who have trouble learning to excel in school. Lindsay worked in an African orphanage and school teaching English and Math. She has also been on the Dean's list for several semesters. Lindsay looks forward to student teaching Fall 2009.
Jeana is a dual major in elementary education and special education with an emphasis in severe disabilities. She has been on the Dean's list for the last five semesters. As a teacher, Jeana hopes to make a difference in the lives of students she comes in contact with. She wants to instill upon them that they are important and valued individuals in the school, community, and society. Helping students to succeed, build self-confidence, and to have a love for learning are the main reasons why Jeana wants to teach.
Janine is a junior and will begin the Special Education major next fall with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. Her desire to major in special education began in the tutoring center working with college students who have reading problems. She is looking forward to achieving her life long dream of being a special education teacher. She has eight children and has spent many hours volunteering in their classrooms. One of Janine's goals is to help children experience the feeling of success.
April is a senior and will graduate Fall 2009 with dual licensure in special and math education. She was recognized as the Undergraduate Researcher of the Year in special education for 2007-2008. Her accomplishments are many including receiving the Presidential Scholarship for Academic Merit as well as the Lillywhite Scholarship. April is a wonderful model for other students in terms of academic scholarship and service to the profession. She worked for the Center for Academic Interventions providing direct services to children at-risk of reading failure, participated in a department sponsored resesrch study evaluating the effectiveness of on-line reading instruction, and wrote an Undergraduate Research and Creative Opportunities grant which was funded. April's interest and commitment to scholarship and service has been an inspiration to both students and faculty.
Katherine is presently a senior in the special education program with an emphasis in early childhood. She is currently serving as president for the Student Council for Exceptional Children and is secretary of the State Board. During her practicum experience at Canyon Elementary, she was offered a position as a paraprofessional. Through her experience(s) and hard work, she will strive to be a good special education teacher.
Elizabeth is presently a dual major in Elementary and Special Education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. She has been on the Dean's list for four consecutive semesters. She hopes to teach in an elementary setting and integrate information she has learned in the classroom such as evidenced-based practices and differentiate instruction to teach students individually and as a whole. Elizabeth is involved with Student Council for Exceptional Children, the Education Council, and Special Olympics.
Lindsay is a junior majoring in special education with an emphasis in mild/moderate and early childhoood disabilities. She was the recipient of the Dean's Nonresident Scholarship and has a cumulative GPA of 3.95. She is the senior instructor for ASSERT working with preschool children ages 3-5 years. Her extra curricular activities include involvement in the University Honors Program, Best Buddies, is a Special Needs Assistant, a peer tutor, a mentor for PEAK, etc. She loves working with children who have various special needs and young children in early intervention settings.
