McKenzie Lerdahl
McKenzie is a dual major in elementary education and special education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. She has been on the Dean's list for four semesters, is an RA for on-campus housing, chairs the local chapter of SCEC, and has many hobbies and interests. She is excited to get into the classroom and begin teaching children. She has learned a lot from the programs at Utah State University and is eager to apply the knowledge in the classroom.
Rachel Hampton
Rachel is a junior and will begin the special education major this fall in the area of mild/moderate disabilities. She has always wanted to teach and began working with students in high school assisting them in math and reading. Her greatest joy was when students caught on to the concept she was teaching and could solve problems on their own. Her future goal is to have an impact on everyone's life that she comes in to contact with as a special education teacher.
Amy Hicken
Amy is a transfer student from BYU-Idaho and will begin the special education major this fall in the area of severe disabilities. She has seven older siblings and her family values education and a good work ethic. In high school, she became involved in Special Olympics and enjoyed helping athletes succeed. She continued with Special Olympics at BYU-Idaho where she served as the coordinator. Her goal is to become an educator in the special education field.
Renee Magnusson
Renee is a Master's student in the special education program with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities.
Kelli Babbitt
Kelli is a senior and will begin the special education major in the fall with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. In high school, she was an aide in a preschool classroom working with students with special needs. As a senior, she served as president of the Natural Helpers organization. She is looking forward to achieving her life long dreams of being a special education teacher.
Tara Fox
Tara is a junior and will begin the special education major in the fall with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. Growing up with a sister who as autism, OCD, ADHD, and a learning disability has influenced Tara to become a special education teacher. She has seen first hand what a child with a disability is capable of when they are nspired and have a reason to succeed. She has also been involved with Best Buddies, has served in orphanages in Ecuador, and other community service organizations. Motivating others is what motivates Tara to become a special education teacher.
Monika Howser
Monika is presently a senior in the special education program with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. She is a single parent returning to school after a nine-year absence. She has always loved helping children learn especially those students who require extra assistance. Monika believes in giving back to the community when she can. Last fall, she volunteered to help teach a resource math class at Summit Elementary and also assisted with a reading group. She begins student teaching Fall 2008, and will continue in a career as a speial education teacher.
Jeanna Sutherland
Jeanna is a dual major in Elementary and Special Education with an emphasis in severe disabilities. She has been on the Dean's list the last three semesters. She wants to help students succeed, build self-confidence, and develop a love of learning. She has volunteered in a Special Needs Institute class, volunteered with an International Service group to the Dominican Republic building homes, made care packages for the troops and has assisted with the Sub for Santa program. She looks forwardto teaching in special education.
Lindsay Campbell
Lindsay is a dual major in elementary and special education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. She will begin the SPED program this fall. Lindsay taught English and Math in an African orphanage Summeer 2004 through Mothers without Borders. She has continued to work at schools in tutoring and teaching young children. She has been placed on the Dean's list the last three semesters. Through her experiece and hard work, she will strive to be a good SPED teacher.
Melanie Voshell
Melanie is presently a dual major in elementary and special education with an emphasis in mild/moderate disabilities. In high school, she was a member of the FCCLA (a service organization),spent time at Assisted Living Centers, is involved in the Rotaract club, and is close to finishing the Service Learning program. Teaching is one of her greatest loves and she plans to use her degree to benefit the lives of Utah's children.
