Prospective Students Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education Program Available USU Special Education Programs Utah State University's Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation provides a variety of licensure programs for distance education students. These programs are listed below. Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education Program The Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education Program offers students undergraduate coursework leading to a B.S. degree in Special Education with an endorsement in teaching students with mild/moderate disabilities in grades K-12. Collaborative Early Childhood Special Education Program (CECSEP) The Collaborative Early Childhood Special Education Program (CECSEP) licenses educators in the state of Utah to work with children from birth to age five. The CECSEP program includes the core special education coursework and early childhood specialization courses. Certification is available at the B.S. or M.S. level. Courses are offered online and at distance-education facilities located throughout the state. Alternative Preparation Special Education Programs The alternative preparation special education programs offer licensing to work with students with mild/moderate and severe disabilities through participating school districts. Participants must have a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and be employed in an approved special education setting serving students with mild/moderate or severe disabilities. This program includes academic coursework taken concurrently with supervised field-based experiences. Applications for admission to the Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education Program are available below as both HTML and PDF documents. You may print an application, complete it, and mail it to the address on the application. Applications are due before October 1 the year prior to the beginning of the program (applications for the 2007 program are due before October 1, 2006). Applicants who do not meet the minimum admission requirements will not be considered. Additional admission information can be found on the advisement page of this website. Program[PDF format] Students who are admitted to the program must also apply and be accepted to Utah State University. Applications to USU can be found on their website at http://www.usu.edu/admissions. There is an application fee for applying to USU. All of the courses listed on the following document (planning guide) are required for graduation from the Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education program. Many of these courses are included in the requirements for admission. General Education (University Studies) The majority of the general education (University Studies) courses required by USU are required for admission to this program (see the requirements for admission page). Courses that are available through continuing education for each semester can be found at the link below. USU Continuing Education Course Listings Professional education courses are listed below and must be completed before a student begins the mild/moderate special education coursework. College of Education and Human Services (CEHS) Writing Exam Applicants for the Mild/Moderate Special Education Distance Education Program must successfully complete the College of Education and Human Services writing exam before being considered for admission. Special Education Department Math Exam Special education applicants must successfully complete the Special Education Department Math Exam before they will be considered for admission. Computer and Information Literacy (CIL) Exam The Computer and Information Literacy (CIL) Exam is a Utah State University general education (University Studies) requirement.
